Swing Low, Sweet Chariot
Well, my chariot wasn’t swinging slow, no, in contrast, it was going too fast. Yesterday I run a new record on my standard way from Enschede towards Hörstel.

Normally, after hitchhiking this route now more than 35 times, I have an average waiting time of 7 minutes in Enschede. The last weeks this became some more, so I normally bet for waiting 10 minutes now. Guess that was because of the bad weather. Whatever, from Enschede towards Hörstel I normally hitch the 60 km in 1,5 hours. The way back from Hörstel normally needs some more time, mostly 2 hours.
Yesterday, all went different. I started exactly at 12:30h. The wind blowed through my hair, the sun was shining for the first time since weeks, yeah, nearly no clouds in the sky (eh, the picture is made some month before) and myself in a fantastic good mood. After no more than four minutes a car with the ST number plate, my area, was passing by. The guy had a look, and then stopped some meter behind me. It came out that he was riding towards Rheine, so perfect and I jumped in! He thought that he already saw me once at the Rheine-Nord ramp, but wasn’t able to stop because of the police behind him. I told him about my hitchhiking stories with all the enthusiasm I have, and he in return, well, not that amused, about his girlfriend who quit their relationship some hours before. I’m sorry, dude!He wanted to get off at “Rheine-Nord”, but he kindly drove to the next ramp of “Rheine”. Cool, never stood there yet in direction Dreierwalde!
There I had a look on my watch: 12:58h! What the hell, I made a new record! 28 minutes only! That had beaten my old record of 37 minutes for 9 minutes!
After getting off, I walked some 100 m in direction Dreierwalde, 3 km before Dreierwalde, 11 before Hörstel. There was, like perfectly made for hitchhikers, a bus bay with enough space for cars to pull over. In a perfect mode, and the sun burning into my face, I showed my thumb after a truck passed by, and wow, the second car immediately stopped. A businessman stopped and drove me towards Hörstel. 5 minutes later, I was standing in front of my parents home. Btw, he was one of these guys who have their suits hanging in the back of the car
What a fast hitch today! Yey!
