Hitchiking contest !
I got invited for the hitchike contest by a dude who I met in Paris meeting. It took place in Gent in Belgium. I decided to come, even though without skipping school it would not work. I started my trip on the 9th of October- at about 17:00, so the plan was to hitchike through night. It was not a short trip after all, took me about 23 hours to get to Gent, which is about 1200 km, but it was worth it.
On the 10th of October me and Bart – the contest organizator explored Gent a bit, had some beers and then I just fell asleep, because I was very very tired after the trip.
The 11st of October – contest time. It all began at 6:30, all the people one by one were getting the letter with destination, and then hitchiked there. There were couples, just me and Bart’s flat mate were alone. His name is Johan. Though we know a bit about hitchiking, we took the 7th and 8th place, but it didn’t matter that much. On the way to the destination, we’vd met 4 TIMES on the way, at gas stations, which was just a case. It was really funny. After we had arrived there, we had kinda nice party. The place was called Extersteine Holzhausen, and it was really beautiful. There were fantastic views, and also a rock-mountain on which u could hike by stairs, about 20 metres tall or sth. The people there made a really strong crew, who increased the atmosphere of the party.
A stranger with a trumphet ?
Johan, me and Simon
Me and Kim
All the stranger on the contest – one Polish and two Germans – Philip and Ralf
And because of his fault it all happened ! ![]()
On the 12nd of October, when the party ended, me and Jonah hitchiked back together – me to Poland and him to Berlin. We had really great time hitchiking together, sharing experience, speaking with the people, laughing at the people and it was really entertaiming, even though we started at 12, and got to Berlin at 6 (good timing I think), then I had like 250 km remaining, and I got home at 8 in the morning (really bad luck at night time in Poland, no rides at all).
The contest was worth coming, skipping school and passing around 2500 km in 4 days, and that’s all because of the people who participated ! Thanks for a good time over there and I really hope to see ya around one day! ![]()
The way back :<
To sum it up
* 4 days on the road
* 2348 km made in 25 rides, which makes average of 93,92 km per car.
* 53 hours spent on hitchiking, which makes average of 44 km/h – really bad one, because I have been in one place for about 7 hours, stuck in Poland on the way back, 30 km from my living place ![]()
