San Jose, Costa Rica

Back in San Jose. The Busride was long. Very long. Last friday morning I took of in San Cristobal. It wasn t easy Rosario made me feel like home in the very south of Mexico. It was the first time I spend so much time playing with a baby. Yes, Galileo made me feel very very good. It s marvelouse to see him struggling while sitting or moving. He is so curiouse about everything. It s all new - how beutifull it must be to discover the entire world from zero without any fear or prejudices.
Anyway, even the best times in life ones pass. So I had a, not very comfortable bus ride from San Cristobal de las Casas to Guatemla City. Over there I stayed with Juan Carlos a very active volunteer who is well known in the Hospitality scene. It was very interestingto talk to him about CS and HC policy. Not as I m willing to spend to much tie on it but it is worrying to see friends of you gettting kicked out of HC - who is the next? In the end I planed to recover at his place which did work out partly. At the very same night I arrived he informed me about a Couchsurfing meeting in Antigua he would like to go. I could not let that run away so I took a shower and we drove off. It was a fun night and again, I met friends of friends I knew from the european Hc/Cs Scene … the world is very very tiny….
On Saturday I just checked mails … played a bit with the childs of my host and walked around in the city for some hours. Sunday morning we went buying the tickets to San Jose with TicaBus. After buying the tickets Juan Carlos took me around for a tour through his city. We went to the anthropolgy museum (where I entered free as a guatemalan citizen) and at 1 pm I took of with the bus. It s a 5 hours ride to San Salvador where I stayed the night (well not really a night … from 7 pm till 2 am). At 2.30 am the bus took of in direction Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica. My mates in the bus were mainly Guatemaltecos ans Salavadorenos who have been on their way to an Iron Maiden Concert in San Jose. On the border from Nicaragua to Costa Rica there where hundrets of them… I just imagine Cosa Rica hsting a soccer World Cup …. that was just a concert with around 25 000 people and all the buses and flights have been sold out … incredible …

Anway .. now I m back in Costa Rica and there is already a living comuntiy I m probably goingto move in. I m gonna live with a Costa Rican, two Americans, a German girl, a french guy and one person we ve still got to find. So everything is good down here …. stay tuned…

Back again!

I m right now in Mexico. Tomorow I m going to a “Brigade” in a autonomouse village of the Zapastas. I ve been today on the Pressconference of the , the organisation who sends me to this community.

They organised this press conference because the situacion in the communities is changing. We saw a video where Brigadists get insulted by paramilitaric groups and a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate wrote an open letter to the Mexican Government in request for justice. See for that the publications on the CAPISE Website or the Indymedia article (in German).

There have been seriouse violations of Human rights, assaults and illegal arresting in this area. It s a fuckin combat zone. These people need us - if we not go they are gonna be killed!

I hope to be back on Saturday in San Cristobal so if you don t have any notice of me until Monday please contact brigadas@capise.org.mx

Traveling with a little bagpack is very comfortable- as longas you are not above 1500 meters. It gets pretty cold here in the night and thats why i m a bit ill in the moment. Nothing seriouse just a little bit headache and my throat hurts. Yesterday I figured out that my bed (which costs me 2 € per night) actually consists of two matresses whichare not very heavy so I decided to spend the night in between them. Very good idea. I had a very warm and long sleep and could recover a bit. I pretty optimistic that I m fine within two days.
Tomorow morning I m gonna move on to Huehuetenangowhere I m gona stay with Mandrake. From there I m planning to head up to San Cristobal de las Casas, Mexico.

The illnes I m sufferingright now gave mesome time to reflect my way oftravel so far. What makes me happy? What I m enjoying most? What is the way I want to travel further on? By which criterias I should select my travel destination?
I don t know the answers toall the questions by now but I know that I do not like: Big cities, big groups of travellers, busy and artificial tourist destinations, jst beaches all the time, traveling in groups, etc. I feel a lot closer to the travelling artists I meet on my way. The musicians, the jugglers, the clowns, the artesanos etc. A lot more interesting are the cyclists crossing all over central america…
I m getting closer to define my own way of travelling. Which might never get a final definition because I hope I m gonna change in future again …
