30 C° - Sun - Bike - Beach - Ron - What the hell is christmas?

Well I just called home and confirmed that it s happenng again - down here it doesn t look like …

What happened in the last weeks in Costa Rica?

On the 11th of December I was on Costa Rica Radio. Talking about Hospitality Exchange Networks.

On the 13th of December I went down to Bahia Gigante where the Costa Rica Camp with 30 people from all over the world took place. I cycled there in two days from San Jose. I figured out a nice route on my map but the information wasn t very good. Apparently I ve bought a futural map because there are roads marked who are going to be build (sometime) but there are not yet there. So I ended up riding on traintracks and donkey paths with all my damn luggage. Anyway - it was an experience. On the first night a camped on a Police station and the cop offered me a ride on his Pickup truck for the next morning - perfect, the road I was supposed to take was too busy anyway. So I easily got to the ferry and on the Peninsula Nicoya I had lunch after ~15 km cycling. While having lunch I decided to drink two beer which together with the sun brought me to try HitchBiking. By the time I left the restaurant a Pickup truck approaced and I putted out my thumb. He stoped and brought me straight to my destination. The Camp was an amazing experience again. I ve got to thank Paloma and Cyril for their help while organizing the camp. After the camp I HitchBiked200 km up to Plaas del Coco for diving. I saw a Mantaray, some White-Tip Sharks a wreck and several Stingrays. It was nice but expensive (95 US for two tanks). During my three days I stayed with Bianca, an austrian diveinstructor I met some weeks ago in Samara. After Cocos I cycled down all the coast of the Peninsula Nicoya, passing by Tamarindo (overcrowded and noisy), surfing in Playa Avellana, checking out a rodeo festival in San Juanillo, camping in two Turtle Wildlife Reserves and finally got to Mal Pais where I met with 7 other students to party. We ve been staying in the Funky Monkey Lodge which was one of the best places I stayed so far. Yesterday I ve got back to San Jose and tomorow I m heading the mountains of Talamaca. There I m gonna take part in a traditional event of the Borucas until the 2. of January. After that I m heading north to Mexico…

I can t find the cable to my camera so you ve got to wait for new pictures… Just two new ones so far:

It s one week more - maximum. Actually I m hoping to be finished with all my university stuff on Friday so I can head down to Dominical to surf a bit with some friends.
Yes it s about to end. The first semester in Costa Rica. Today I ve got the first result of my course “Colonial History of Latin America”. This course was every thursday morning at 7 am. I ve got no idea why the heck I choose this course. I ve acutally haven t been there that often. It s just to early in the morning and usually my flatmates already finished their university week on wednesday so parties haven t been a exception on wednesday night. Anyway I ve got a 8.5 out of ten which surprised me heavily because there was nothing but 2 exams and 2 quizes we had to write. Actually I just knew the result of the first quiz when I got to the office of the prof today - this result was a zero (0)!

Anyway happy to pass the first course I m right now about to finish the final paper for my course in Sociology (Social movements) and on Tuesday I ve got to give in a work about economic straegies of incas compared with izmocolombian chiefdoms. Friday there is a presentation of a text I ve got to read and then there is still a groupwork pending but I think I brought my part in already so I hope I do not get bothered with this anymore.

So many details to proove that I m really working here. No comes the more enjoyable part - the dreams for the future. First I m going to surf a few days in the south of the country and then I m gonna give my time and power to finalize the organization of the Costa Rica Camp. After that I think I m gonna ride my bike a bit on the Peninsula Nicoya and camp on lonesome beaches. As there are a bunch of people renting out a house in Malpais from 22. December I m gonna met them, probably on the 27 th because thats the birthday of Rafael, a flatmate from San Jose. After that I m gonna bring my bike to a safe place and move my as to the cordillera de Talamanca in order to take part in a indigenouse ceremony until the first or second of January. After that experience I m heading up north. I think I m gonan travel through all these countries (Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala) without really visiting them in order to get as early as possible to the intergalactic rainbow gathering which takes part on Tabasco, Mexico. This gathering lasts until the 21. February so I ve already have to go back to study in Costa Rica. SInce I ve booked a flight out of Cancun for the 9.Octuber (for 307 € straight to Madrid) I ve got to vistit Central America anyway so I don t worry to much about just rushing through and hanging around with a bunch of hippies in Mexico.

Thats so far from Costa Rica. Check out the Pictures I ve update if you are bored…
