How to add a map to your blog

Friday, June 6th, 2008

This small manual will show you how to add a google map to your blog post. It’s easy!First of all, log in to the blog administration. When viewing your blog, to go Options, there you find the menu WP-Google-Maps. In this menu you can set in your API. It’s a code you get from google easily for free, just click on the “Get your API Key” link in the options menu and add it to the box there. Now you can start adding your maps:

  1. Visit Options -> WP-Google-Maps
  2. When you have entered a valid API key, you can search your favourite city inside the map on the right.
  3. After searching a city, the longitude and latitude variables will be updated automatically on the left. Under the map you see the code your post, starting with [wp-google-maps lat=...
  4. This code will sometimes not be updated automatically, so best is to click “Update options” and go back again, then it should work. Otherwise copy the link and change the lat=, lon= and zoom variables manually.
  5. If you have copied the link into your post, the map should be visible on your blog.
  6. Congratulations! You added a google map to your blog :-) It your search for Paris, it should look like this:

If you have any questions about this, don’t hesitate to ask :) Hugs, Platschi
